Advice from Morgan Sullivan

Quotes about career path, skills, and teamwork from an industry leader.
I've learned to have patience and empathy in the workplace and to advocate for yourself (and others) when you need to.
We are in the memory-making business and that goes for our guests and for our team.
When I went from working in operations to working behind the scenes as a recruiter, it was a big leap of faith. I knew that my strengths were in building strong teams and understanding people, so the transition has been great and very rewarding. Never be afraid to take a leap of faith if it means progress for your future!
Two pieces of advice that have stuck with me are:
(1) "Be a matter great or small, do it well or not at all" and (2) "If it is to be, it is up to me."
I look for passion, drive and energy when recruiting candidates.
It is especially important these days that we, as leaders, are dedicated and passionate about what we do so that we can continue to inspire a new generation of industry professionals.
The most important skills to possess as a recruiter in hospitality are communication, organization, patience and empathy.
I find inspiration by listening to people talk about their passions, how they have overcome their struggles professionally and personally.
I really enjoy getting my nails done!
It’s one self-care action a month that can be an instant mood and confidence booster!
I regularly read Bon Appetit, Wine Spectator, and the New York Times Food section.
I also listen to the Pre-Shift and Burnt Chef Project podcasts.
Constant communication, uplifting each other, and coaching help me keep my team motivated.
I grew up learning from my parents who own and operate landmark establishments in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Hospitality has always been about going the extra mile, creating memories, and providing an experience for all who walk in the door. I knew that I loved people and so hospitality and service have come naturally to me.
Advocating for myself and believing in myself has gotten me to where I am today.
I was taught from a young age to treat every job as if the restaurant was my own, and it is something that I hold true to myself even in my current work as a recruiter. In an often male-dominated industry, it can be hard to be seen for the leader you truly are. By believing in yourself, having confidence in your conviction, and advocating for yourself you can never lose.
We are never done learning in this industry!
People and experiences keep me going.
Talking to people, supporting new local businesses, keeping up with the trends on social media and beyond.
Boomerang for Outlook has been a lifesaver for keeping me organized and staying on top of follow ups via email.
