Vice President | Prentice Hospitality Group
I know now the vision of your career never matches what the reality becomes. I envisioned the position I now hold as my dream position, but never thought the path I started on would take me here. Most people need to learn to trust the process. Allow for your career to veer in different directions than you had originally planned.

Advice from Alex Wolf

Quotes about career path, skills, and teamwork from an industry leader.
I require all staff members to go through a progression from the bottom up, regardless of their overall potential.
It can be challenging to learn the roles of your employees while managing them. You need to have a firm foundation and intimate understanding of the day-to-day of each individual you employ in order to effectively lead them. If I were to do it all over again, I don't think I would have allowed my ambition to inform my decisions.
The best advice I’ve received was while working in Ann Arbor.
I worked with a Chef who had returned from New York City to raise his family. He told me that you are never really of this business until you've moved to one of the major cities. I followed his advice and can't imagine where my career would have gone had I not.
My first job taught me two amazing things:
1. That moving from an hourly position to management is incredibly difficult. 2. As an ambitious young person, you need to be twice as hardworking, serious and disciplined as the people who surround you, who inevitably trump you in experience.
It's important to remember that the job is bigger than your personal wants or needs.
When you realize that people depend on you on a daily basis for support and encouragement, it's much easier to shake off your own petty concerns.
