Kara Mitchell

General Manager | The Iberian Pig
I knew the hospitality industry was right for me the first time a bride told me the event we had planned exceeded all of her expectations. This became my goal for all guest experiences. Once I moved into management, I realized that I wanted to coach my staff to do the same.

Advice from Kara Mitchell

Quotes about career path, skills, and teamwork from an industry leader.
I love the challenge and reward of exceeding at a new skill or in a new position.
I am extremely competitive and want to be the best at all of it!
One piece of advice that has stuck with me is to take the time to consider other people's perspectives especially when you are having a harder conversation.
This has helped me to be a more empathetic and effective manager.
As simple as it sounds, I look for those that are kind and eager to learn.
With those attributes we can teach you anything you need to know.
I look for the things that my team is excited about.
If a bartender is really geeking out on a type of spirit or wine I give them the resources to dive into it and share it with their team.
There are too many lessons to list them all but the one that has been a key to success for me is to always try and be a step ahead and expect things to go wrong.
This helps be more prepared and adaptable.
A lot of my inspiration comes from my team and guests.
They consistently motivate me to improve the experience we're providing and the satisfaction for my staff to do things well.
I'm really into leadership podcasts right now and have also become part of a tasting group in Atlanta that has found a way to set up COVID-safe blind wine tastings.
