Edy Massih

Caterer + Owner | Edy's Grocer
Some lessons I've learned throughout my career: Always treat people like you would like to be treated. Be frugal, because you never know when there will be a bad day. And always have a plan, write things down — to-do lists are the way to succeed.

Advice from Edy Massih

Quotes about career path, skills, and teamwork from an industry leader.
This quote from Oprah has always stuck with me:
"Always surround yourself with people who want to lift you up, not bring you down."
I find inspiration from my home county, Lebanon, and by dining out & traveling.
When hiring, I look for those with positive energy.
Someone that wants to be a part of a team. Hygiene is also really important for me.
It's important to always be thinking ahead, stick to an identity and brand, and have great time management!
My morning routine — time to myself before I start my day — is part of my regular self-care.
I make sure to work out and do my face routine.
I enjoy listening to Oprah's podcast, Good Children.
For business I listen to Buildout, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, and BetterUp's business coaching.
I keep the team inspired by always doing new and fun events and collaborations with other industry people, as well as trying out new foods/recipes.
I keep them motivated by giving them holidays off, summer vacation, and trying my best to accomodate any requested time off.
Every job I have worked has impacted my career!
Working for Union Square Hospitality particularly showed me how to work with a team.
"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." An example of this was when COVID happened and my catering business was shut down.
I was forced to pivot and take the risk of opening up The Grocer.
