Advice from Lauren Hoey

Quotes about career path, skills, and teamwork from an industry leader.
A valuable piece of advice for me was to take things slowly and view my career as a long game.
It's really tempting to compare oneself to others in our industry, especially with how interconnected we are. I remind myself often to make more deliberate decisions and invest in my skills and relationships. Also, it's extremely important to focus on work-life balance!
When considering aspiring professionals for our team, two qualities are particularly important to me:
(1) humility and (2) a genuine desire to expand their knowledge. Together, these contribute to both individual growth and overall success of the team.
Burnout is very real!
One self-care practice I prioritize is consciously separating myself from work without guilt on my days off. Establishing boundaries between work and personal time is crucial for maintaining balance and preventing exhaustion. This definitely requires ongoing commitment and self-reminders.
I find inspiration primarily within my community and through the support of my close friends.
I'm continually inspired by their creativity, passion, and resilience. Additionally, we freely share insights, feedback and resources to help each other succeed.
There are many podcasts I listen to regularly.
A wine-focused one is Levi Dalton's 'I'll Drink to That,' a podcast where he interviews prominent winemakers and other wine professionals. I find it incredibly informative and fascinating. Another podcast I listen to for fun is by comedian Youngmi Mayer. She blends comedy and social commentary to discuss race, politics, and current social issues.
